Dean - My dad started me out fishing at 3 years old, and I have never looked back! As a colorado native, I grew up fishing anywhere and everywhere I could. I taught myself to fly fish at twelve, and thought I died and went to heaven when my dad acquired a private stretch of the blue river during my teen years. My friends and I spent countless hours fishing our blue river just south of kremmling, times I will always cherish. Our family traded the land on the blue river for a beautiful stretch of the colorado river between kremmling and parshall, I am now lucky to live in a place where i can take a two minute walk and be fishing in the colorado river.
Given the choice to fish here in colorado, I would loosen up on the colorado here in my back yard, and then drive a couple miles up the road and wade the troublesome. These two waters are very personal to me, and afford much more than simply catching a fish.
Outside of colorado, you're best bet would be to look for me on the back of a 38 ft. Hatteras after marlin and sails in Costa Rica, with an ice cold beer in hand!
Having been around hunting and fishing my entire life I am proud to say that I don't think you can find better water or better guides to share it with than what we have put together here at bull basin guides and outfitters. Looking forward to making some memories with you. |

BobĀ - I grew up in the small town of Whitehorse in Canada's Yukon Territory. Raised in a hunting and fishing family, I have been fishing since I was big enough to hold a rod. Fishing Lake Trout, Northern Pike, Grayling, Rainbow Trout, Arctic Char and all five species of Pacific Salmon of the Yukon and Alaska helped educate me in a diversity of fishing styles and techniques.
I am a self-taught fly fisherman and have fished throughout the U.S., Canada, Germany and Denmark as well as just about every stream in Colorado. I have been fishing "our" stretch of the Troublesome since Bull Basin got it in 2000, and know this water like the back of my hand. Other than the Troublesome, my favorite place to fish in Colorado is the Colorado River between Parshall and Kremmling. Outside of Colorado, my favorite water is near Haines, Alaska on the Chilkat River, fishing for Sockeye and Coho salmon. I fly fish year round, but my favorite time to fish is mid-July through August with my Sage 9 foot 5 weight XP, floating a big hopper and a Copper John dropper to monster fish.
My knowledge of fly fishing and my experience on the stream enable me to teach first time fly fishermen, and to team up with the most experienced for a great time on the water. I never get tired of helping people catch fish! |

Dylan
- A native of Colorado, he was raised in Summit County and grew up fishing
local river and streams under the careful eye of his father.
He loves to fish anytime anywhere, however, the fall is his favorite time of the year to fish midges to big fish!
I still own more bamboo rods than I do composite, both have thier pros and cons, but bamboo is still silky smooth!
To me fishing is unique activity - the weather, water and the fish all
change, so the more you fish the more you get to experience!
I think the reason Im still fly fishing after 30 years is the company I
fish with! |

Paul - Leaving
Kansas at an early age and moving to Colorado I grew up fishing the
Gunnison River, the Arkansas River, Roaring Fork, Taylor River and of
course the Colorado River around Kremmling. The Arkansas River in
Colorado, from Salida downstream, is my favorite river to fish. On this
stretch my fly of choice is a yellow stimulator with a copper john
dropper, however this setup works well on all of these waters as well
as the Troublesome Creek in the Kremmling area. Traveling out of state
I've spent many days fishing on the Green River in Utah sight fishing
for "that big fish" trying to entice him to take a fly. The rod I like
to use is an 8 1/2 foot five weight Orvis T3 mid-flex. It's a standard
weight, length, and flex which works well on all rivers and streams I
fish.
Spring is always
an exciting time to fish and get back into the season. The caddis hatch
on the Arkansas River or the blue wing olive hatch on most of the
rivers at this time provides plenty of excitement for any fisherman.
I
grew up in a fishing family. Whether from the shore or in a boat I was
always taught a great respect for the outdoors and developed a true
passion for fishing. My earliest recollection of fly fishing was at the
age of nine with a bamboo fly-rod fishing for blue gill in Missouri.
I
feel fortunate to have turned my passion of fly-fishing into a job
where I'm able to teach others the skills to become a member of this
great sport. I've been guiding now for about 15 years. Since retiring
from my career as a teacher and later as the principal of an elementary
school, I've been able to devote my time to helping others learn or
improve their fly-fishing skills. I enjoy meeting people from all walks
of life and gaining new friendships. I especially enjoy seeing
beginners develop the skills to be successful and independent, later to
return with a love of the sport. Most important to me is that I get to
spend my days in the outdoors enjoying the beauty of Colorado. My
philosophy of fishing is summed up in the quote, "Many men go fishing
all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after".
